The Breaking of the Fellowship
Good grief.
I'm full of tolkien. Its so weird, but like I told Laura last night, reading Tolkien for the first time and the relase of the wonderful LOTR films was a landmark in my life that kickstarting my process of growing up.
Tolkien's books have added so much spiritual and emotional clarity to my life, I'm so grateful for them. Thank you God such a wonderful gift.
Anyway, this is a responce to Melenie's post about missing the past. I fully understand her sadness and frustration with change, but the only answer so far that's made any sense is this connection to Tolkien. There's not a whole lot here that's new, it's just something I didn't want to forget, so I'm posting it here too. Here's what I wrote:
EDIT!!!!: At least one part of our past hasn't changed and that's Homestar. Check this out, it's one of the best ones I've ever seen. I nearly wet my pants. I needed that. (the nearly part. I would have been mad if I wet my pants.)

I miss you too Melenie.
Maybe the original crew should organize a hostile takeover of Bookends and Beans and start over :P. A coup!!!
Heh, heh.
I don't know. Maybe the change was inevitable. Like the wise Mr.G says "even the wise cannot see all ends." I just wish we could part with the beautiful past on better terms you know?
You know what this feels like? (I know, more tolkien reverences). It feels like the fellowship of the ring. What we had before was hobbiton. Like a happy little club. But soon, reality had to kick in, and now we're on the journey (some of us on seperate ones). Our fellowship has broken.
The sad part is, like Frodo, we can't go back to exactly the way it was. But frodo had a place to go forward to beyond his old home, and so do we.
Just like the passing of a friend, we should mourn for a time, and then move on with our lives. But we should always remember it.
Jesus is there like you said. God, please let us see with your eyes, and grant us peace. Inner peace, and peace with each other.
We've gotta talk melenie, its been too long.

i'm confused...is the magpie no more? you never said anything about it on here. anyway thats really cool that you are reading LOTR right now. i just started reading it like two days ago myself. so is that still a posibility for me to come up there for a couple days? ttyl
TIM
No the Magpie is still up and running, its just that a lot of people have left and the focus and atmosphere have changed enormously since I started working there.
It's still the best job I'll ever have, it's just not as...innocent. I'm back in survivor mode (how i made it through Mcdonalds). I have to keep my guard up emotionally much more than I used to.
Yes, lotr is such a blessing. Have you read it before? This is my sixth time through. I've read the Silmarillion twice, the Hobbit four times, and I just finished the new one the Children of Hurin last week. It's not as good though. More of a quick diversion for Tolkien enthusiests but in no way revolutionary.
Dude, yeah. We'd love to have you. I just thought of something, is there a possibility that you'd be interested in going to Cornerstone this year? Its like 20 miles from where J-Bo lives so we'd see him during the fracus.
Oh, long time no speak, how you been? When are you going to get your own blog?
The LOTR analogy is soooo how I feel. My favorite of the movies was always the first- in Hobbiton & with the elves. The darker it gets the less I like it. I totally identify with Frodo wanting to go back to Hobbitan. But alas it will never be the same. We need to have a fire at our house with some of the old gang. When are you free? Would love to do it before Laura leaves. I think its really hitting me more now, because tax season is over and I'm dealing with the whole "now what?" thing. I've been so busy up until now it hasn't had alot of time to hit me. Also, seeing Steve at his wedding last weekend made me miss the way it used to be. I don't handle change well. Still grieving I guess. :(
this is actually my first time through lotr. right now i'm just on chapter six of the first book but so far i'm loving it. i hafta say that C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien are def my favorite writers ever.
going to Conerstone would be kinda fun but my parents wouldn't let me.
as for me getting a blog, when are you going to get IM? i'll call you sometime in the not to distant future and we can work something out regarding this summer.
Marzipan and Bubs?!?!
Totally offtopic...
Cade, here's the article we talked about

Um, blogger cut off the link. Paste this onto the end of it.

Laura, you should read this too. I'd bet you'd really enjoy it. World renown Joshua Bell playing some of the finest violin music ever in a subway.

Hey Cade -
I agree with the LOTR analogy. Crazy times...
Anywho, in answer to your question about the Brownie, it's an old box-type camera put out by Kodak from 1900 to the late 70's or early 80's. It had it's heyday though in the 40's to 60's, and because it was mass-produced it's fairly easy to come across one in an antique store today. My particular camera is a Brownie Target Six-Twenty, produced from 1946 to 1952.
At any rate, I've got some more film coming in the mail, so hopefully I can get out and take a few more photos soon.
And thanks for passing along the compliment - it's nice to hear.

That link Jason gave you was amazing. I can see that happening though at morning rush hour. I'm usually running behind so I wouldn't be able to stop long either. :(
Who all have you invited to this thing on Sat? What do you want me to bring? Do you need any help?
Melanie
Cade, miss ya much, bro. Loved talking with ya. If you're ever in IL, stop by. Still stuck at home with the legal stuff till November, but the wife and i plan on going to C-Stone 08.
Have you read The Fall Of Lucifer by Wendy Alec (or something like that)? Hypothetical novel on the three brothers/angels. It's the 1st book of an epic.
A couple things:
1. you and seth need to come down and visit soon. Find a weekend. Make it happen. That's an order.
2. You and seth ought to come down this fall. . .move into the building, do school and work with us. It would be amazing.
3. I sent an email to you and seth at your dad's email addy (two, actually) detailing the things I wanted you to acquire for me. I'll be leaving this note on your brother's blog as well. I need individual email addies for the two of you. . .I still have 49 gmail invites - I could send two your way.
