10,000 fists going to waste

This week Disturbed's third recording "10,000 Fists" was released to the masses. I've been a long-time admirer of this group as they have broken so many barriers in originality and artistry. But I cannot stand for the message that they are sending their fans, and the world.

"10,000 Fists" is another rock album that focuses on rebellion and anger. They tackle the typical plitical issues which are in vogue to be angry about in music industry right now (do musicians have a unified cult or something?). In one song they lash out against pop music and it's habit of churning out over-produced music in mass quantities--forcing artistically void material on the public for money. Like they aren't doing the same thing?

As I read about the album and the band I keep hearing that "We are angry, we want to change the status quo." and so on. I'm having trouble finding what in particular it is exactly that needs to be changed. They're getting restless but they don't know exactly what about. They're calling us to join them and their army of angry people. "We want to see ten thousand fists rising in defiance!" Defiance against what?

It's a long standing tradition in hard rock to be rebellious and angry about...everything. It's cool and underdog to say that there is something wrong with everyone else. The truth is, without Christ, they are just as hopeless as the rest of the world. If you really want to stand out and shake the very foundations of how the world works, try living in righteousness.

Righteousness is the ultimate rebellion. People think we need to stand up to "the man," the government, and authority, but the sad truth is, they are fighting the wrong machine. The world is not being ruled by mankind, it's being ruled by sin and until our king returns, that is the outstanding power on earth. Humans will always fall into the path of selfishness. If you think the world is in a terrible place and something needs to be changed, then you're absolutely right, and the only answer to that is Jesus.

Artists like Disturbed spend all this time and talent telling us that we need to rebel, we need to be angry, and we need to rally together and make sure the world knows all of that. If only they would call their legions to a more worthy cause, like loving their neighbors.

You are NOT fired. I love the heart coming out in this. You speaka da truth, and anyone who scoffs the true counter culture lifestyle of living in righteousness is blinded by culture.

(Your brother said you were feeling better. See you soon.)

Hey Cade,
I felt bad having read your post and not commented. I value your insight into today's rebellious rock culture. What you said is so true and I am sad because such great music and artistry is wasted on meaningless causes. Okay, back to studying :) have a great break and I'll see you in a week
